Breast Cancer Fundraiser

The Pink Fling fundraiser was fortunate in having the weather cooperate for their event. Buffalo had just received 24 inches of snow, but this October 14 day was sunny and windless with a crisp 50º temperature. Rosemont was blocked off to automobile traffic from Broadway south to the alley and a multitude of tents were filled with food and merchandise vendors’ tables. At the Broadway end, a stage was set with musical instruments and a sound system. At the alley end were inflatable kid’s attractions. The event was scheduled for noon to 6pm.

An interview with Dawn Glapion, Soothe Your Senses Director of Spa Services.

Jack: Dawn, what is going on here?

Dawn: Well, Soothe Your Senses organized this Breast Cancer fundraiser. Everything that we make here today [from Soothe Your Senses sales] is going to the National Breast Cancer Foundation. We have live entertainment all day. We have food venders and artists and spa services going on all day and everything goes to National Breast Cancer Foundation.

Jack: How many vendors do you have out here today and what percentage of the proceeds will go to the cancer foundation?

Dawn: Well, let’s see, we have ten vendors today, and all of the vendors are donating a portion of their proceeds, 50 percent from the food vendors and all the rest of the vendors can donate as much as they want, but they have a minimum donation of ten percent. The spa is donating everything that we make from spa services.

Jack: What services is the spa offering today?

Dawn: We are doing mini services, so people will pay for short services. Today we are offering sugar scrub hand treatments, head neck and shoulder massages, aromatherapy head and neck treatments, chair massage, and mini facials. Customers can enter a raffle and with the raffle tickets they can purchase spa services.

Jack: How long has the spa been at this location?

Dawn: This is the first Sooth Your Senses spa to open up; we actually started the company as a product line three years ago. This spa opened in November of 2005.
