Like Mama Said

You spent your teen years trying to distance yourself from Mom. Especially when she’d hoot a little too loudly from the sideline and call your prom date’s parents to make sure an adult would be present.

Turns out, there’s no place like home. (And a little TLC never hurt anyone.)

Which is precisely what you’ll get at the new Soothe Your Senses Day Spa. Opened by Gretchen Halpin as an homage to her Louisiana childhood, the Edgewater address is an offshoot of the Lake Pontchartrain original (which was run by her mom).

All treatments are based on natural healing (Halpin’s grampy was the town’s traiteur/Creole healer), so they not only make you feel good, but they’re also good for you.

Expect a warm Southern welcome and an invitation to relax in the parlor before and after your treatments. Our favorite spot is the hydrotherapy room with two sunken Jacuzzi tubs — the perfect escape for a city dweller with only a shower stall to call her own.

On second thought, it turns out some places are better than home.

Soothe Your Senses Day Spa, 6260 North Broadway Street, at Rosemont Avenue (773-262-4246 or sootheyoursenses.com).
